Project Summary:

In preparation for Day-One CSX-Consolidated Rail Corporation consolidated operations, a new intermodal terminal was required to handle the new volume capacity requirements in Chicago.  The Milord Company was contracted to design-build a complete facility on a 150 acre abandoned Pennsylvania Railroad yard site on the south side of Chicago.  The project accommodates twelve (12) trains a day inbound/outbound with over 600,000 revenue volume lifts annually.  In just 16 months, the Milord team obtained re-zoning of the site to a PMD, complete design and permitting and full construction.  Work included 1,000,000+ CY earthwork, 82,000 TF new CWR track,  five (5) through-girder railroad bridges and three (3) highway bridges, 100 acres paving, storm systems, gate areas, maintenance facilities, transportation building, high-mast lighting, power, water, etc.  The terminal is among the highest-volume terminals in the country, and received an Engineering Excellence award from the ACEC recognizing its exceptional engineering.
