Milord was once again called upon for their engineering, expertise and knowledge to repair three 60 foot long tunnel freezers while keeping this high production USDA plant operational. The freezer modules had become separated which caused the subgrade underneath them to freeze and heave the wearing slab. The project was a phased operation with each line being isolated with temporary partitions. Once enclosed, we raised in place, the tunnels with temporary steel structures that enabled access to the affected area. We then removed and replaced the wearing slab and frozen subgrade. The modules were then repaired and retrofitted with taller leg sets to provide better air flow to prevent any future subgrade freezing issues.
